Common Injuries & Conditions
Shoulder

Of all of the joints in the body, the shoulder has the largest range of motion. This flexibility allows the arms to be available in virtually all activities. The shoulder is a complex arrangement of bones held together by muscles, tendons and ligaments.

Common shoulder injuries and conditions that we treat include:

Arthritis – Arthritis refers to the variety of conditions that cause inflammation and the degeneration of the cartilage and lining of the body’s joints. It can occur at any joint, but is especially prevalent in the feet and ankles. Rheumatoid arthritis can occur at any age, causing severe deformities of joints, which restricts motion and causes pain. Osteoarthritis can be a result of a previous injury to the joint, or can result from normal “wear and tear”.

Dislocation – these occur most often when the arm is stretched backward, pulling the humerus (long arm bone) out of the socket. The shoulder is more prone to dislocation than any other joint!

Sprain or Separation – a shoulder sprain is often caused by falling on the shoulder and occurs when ligaments are torn. A separation involves the collar bone and causes it to pop up, pushing the skin.

Shoulder Fracture – commonly occurs with a dislocation and is usually involving the collar bone or the top of the long arm bone (humerus).

Wear and Tear injuries – Bursitis, Tendonitis
